Title: The Start of Something Wonderful

Author: Jane Lambert

Pages: 364 (audiobook)

My review:

The Start for Something Wonderful was a great journey and experience for me because it was one of a few audiobooks that I ever listen to. I spent nine hours listening to a pleasant narrator’s voice and enjoyed the story. This past period was very busy and confusing for me so it helped that the book was audio format so I did whole domestic work while I listen and went at work safe and sound.

The story is about Emily forty years old stewardess who decides to give resignation to have more time with her boyfriend. They live together and she has everything which one woman could wish for a pilot man beside her, she travels to every exotic place on Earth and wears designer’s wardrobe. Has she?

Right after he broke up with her she quits her job and she becomes jobless and homeless. Emily is desperate and desperate times call desperate measures. She chooses to follow her dream to become an actress. Subsequent to that the story gets better and better.

I am grateful because I have a chance to read this book in such a busy period for me. I easily related to Emily cause I am in my early forty as her, also I give resignation and find another job and have to learn everything from the beginning as Emily. The other thing that keeps me listening till the end is the captivating and funny story. Sometimes I hope that my life is funny as Emily’s and I could laugh to my defeats as I did on Emily’s.

Emily is funny and caring but a very insistent person, I like how she deals with the situation and how persistent she is. In those acting classes, her thoughts seem so important and loud in my mind.

The writing style gives the right way to this story especially Emily’s path through her new career really gives the sense of chick lit story.

Greek Millionaire, Unruly Wife- review+ blog tour + giveaway

Greek Millionaire Unruly Wife Full Tour Banner.jpg

My review:

When Julia finds her husband with another woman that is the end no matter how rich or how handsome he is. But Michalis Leonidis a Greek tycoon doesn’t share the same meaning with her. He wants revenge and he is furious. It is not about a billion dollar deal broken or his marriage but he can’t pass through the secret Julia hides from him. So, Michalis gets big vengeance on her.

The story is typical romance there is everything that one good romance book could have two persons in love but they hate each other, one big secret which leads the tale ahead, hot- cold situation and many things which I love.

I like Julia because she knows what she wants. She is an independent woman who doesn’t have only beauty but also has other qualification to be great female.

“Not long ago, she’d owned countless such designer gowns, shoes, jewellery, and had the man- the life- to go with it. A sound gurgled in her throat, and the girl cast her odd look. Julia swallowed and turned away, blinking back the tears pressing against her lids.”

One of the we-are-enemies scenes:

…when he shifted his eyes to her, his tender look became eclipsed…

“Don’t look at me like that,” she’d said between her teeth.

“Like what?”

“Like I’ve committed some great sin.”

He scratched his cheek with the pad odd his thumb. “Conscience nipping at you?”

“No,” she hissed. “ It’s not my conscience that’s guilty, it’s-“

I recommend this novel to everyone who wants easy romantic story especially to read on the beach.

Synopsis:

A tempestuous fling…a marriage…a betrayal?

When Michalis Leonadis’ bride jumps ship at the first sign of rough waters, he’s annoyed. When she costs him a marriage and a billion-dollar deal, he’s furious; but when he discovers she ditched him whilst harboring a secret…he’s out for revenge.

Ex-model, Julia Armstrong gave up everything for Michalis but when she catches him with another woman, crushed, she jets out of his life. The proud Greek blasts back into her world seeking retribution—in exchange for a divorce, he demands she relinquish the one thing she cannot. Her daughter. Only one other bargaining chip remains…Julia herself.

The Letter – Kitty’s Story by Eliza J. Scott – blog tour, giveaway + guest post

THE LETTER_FRONT_RGB_150dpi.jpg

The Letter – Kitty’s Story

Thirty-four-year-old Kitty Bennett is trapped in a loveless marriage to criminal barrister, Dan, who’s gradually isolated her from her family and friends. Until the day she (literally) bumps into her first love, the handsome and easy-going Ollie Cartwright – someone she’s done her best to avoid for as long as she can remember. Looking into Ollie’s eyes awakens feelings for him she thought she’d buried deep years ago, and he clearly feels the spark, too. As she walks away, Kitty can’t help but wonder what might have been…
Dan senses that his marriage is on shaky ground and knows he needs to win his wife round. He turns on the charm, skilfully using their two children, Lucas and Lily, as bargaining tools. But Kitty’s older brother, Jimby, and her childhood best-friends, Molly and Violet, have decided enough is enough. For years they’ve had to watch from afar as Kitty’s been browbeaten into an unrecognisable version of herself. They vow to make her see Dan for what he really is, but their attempts are no match for his finely-honed courtroom skills and, against her better judgement, Kitty agrees to give her husband one last chance. But, all-too-soon, a series of heart-breaking events and a shocking secret throw her life into turmoil…
Will she stand by Dan, or will Kitty be brave enough to take the leap and follow her heart to Ollie?

Life is anything but peaceful in the chocolate-box pretty village of Lytell Stangdale, where life unravels, and hearts are broken. Full of heart-warming moments, this book with have you crying

tears of joy, laughter and sadness.

GUEST POST

THE HARDEST PART OF WRITING A BOOK

Hi Books Are My Life, thank you so much for taking part in the blog tour of The Letter – Kitty’s Story and for giving me a space on your lovely blog. I thought I’d share with you what I find to be the hardest part of writing a book. Here goes:

Coming up with ideas for a story has never been a problem for me – I’ve got A4 notebooks full of them! In fact, my head sometimes feels like it’s brimming over with them all trying to spill out at the same time! Anyway, once I get an idea, the main characters fall into place almost instantly – from their hair colour to their personality and traits. The setting follows, including what the protagonists’ home is like. I love this part; getting to know the characters, good or bad. Admittedly some sub-characters pop into my head once the story is in full flow, but that’s okay, there’s usually a space for them.

Finding the time to squeeze in a bit of writing when you’re in the middle of a property renovation, have a lengthy school run to contend with twice a day and keeping on top of a large, but messy, garden has been a bit of a challenge. Actually, it’s been a lot of a challenge! But when I’d decided to knuckle down and get my book finished, and because writing is my happy place, I was determined to do what I could to fit in a little bit of scribbling every day, no matter how small.

Self–editing my manuscript for the first time was pretty tricky as I just wanted to keep everything in it. I didn’t want to say goodbye to Lytell Stangdale and its inhabitants, but it dawned on me that I could move some of the excess story from The Letter – Kitty’s Story and redistribute it into Molly’s Story and Violet’s Story. That made so much more sense – although the manuscript was still a hefty whopper! Thankfully, my wonderful editor, Alison Williams set me on the right path and I managed to streamline the book significantly.

Formatting and all that techie stuff it involved, was something that was niggling away at the back of my mind, and I wasn’t looking forward to tackling it. But with determination and learning through (lots of!) mistakes, I managed to get it done, relieved to know it will be easier next time.

So, while all of the above were without doubt challenges during my writing process, nothing came anywhere near to being as blimmin’ difficult as writing the blurb! Argghhhh! Oh, boy, did that make my head ache! How on earth do you condense thousands and thousands of words into a few hundred and make it sound so catchy it jumps off the page at potential readers? It took me days and had several incarnations (the blurb, not me!) until I reached something that I was happy with. In fact, I had to force myself to stop tweaking it as I could have gone on fiddling away with it forever. And I’m not so sure it’ll be easier next time I have to do it.

So, as you can see, there are many challenges involved in writing a book but what, on the face of it, can appear like the easiest thing to do, actually turns out to be the hardest!

We have Bella Osborne here with a guest post.

Research

If you were to look at my recent Google search history it’s likely you’d be alarmed. Here’s an example:

  • Klu Klux Klan
  • Can you poison someone with Christmas dinner?
  • Pink Panther
  • What causes a heart attack?
  • Brummie slang
  • Can you see metal on an ultrasound?
  • Medieval gestures
  • What is the minimum amount of morphine needed to kill someone?
  • Free running
  • How to cause a car accident?

That was 100% all to do with book research – honest. And that’s what I’d tell the police if they ever popped round for a chat. As a writer you have to check your facts and different people do this at different stages of their writing process. I tend to do enough research at the start of the project to make me feel comfortable that I know what I’m talking about. When I was researching what it was like to be deaf I met with my local deaf club very early in the process so that I could really understand their perspective before I started writing the character. However, for other things I leave it later in the process.

Sometimes you’re not sure if a particular element will get cut or amended at the structural editing stage so as long as it’s roughly correct it’s probably not worth too much time and effort until you’re sure it’s staying in. Other things like the bats that plagued Daisy in Coming Home to Ottercombe Bay popped up part way through the story and as I knew diddly doo dah about them I felt I needed to investigate before I wrote that section. This is where Google is the writer’s friend. Where else could you discover that there is such a thing as The National Bat Helpline? And a local Devon Bat Group? Both of these introduced me to lovely, knowledgeable people who could answer my inane questions and steer me in the right direction.

The very big danger with research is that it’s only a few clicks away from watching kittens on You Tube and that’s when Google is not the writer’s friend. Because we all know that writer’s put the pro in procrastination.

We have Wendy’s guest post here:

The Flower Pot Witch - Wendy.jpg

Why Magic?

I wanted to write a ‘new story’ for women. My fiction features strong yet vulnerable women. My stories show girls and women that they can be whoever they want to be. They can follow their hearts, trust their instincts, believe in themselves, even enjoy not conforming and most importantly, experience magic in their lives.

Witch Lit is contemporary, magical realism, where the magical and the mundane co-exist. The stories are gritty and believable while magic is sprinkled through the stories, offering the reader a new perspective on reality.

We all experience magic in our lives. There is no need to be pagan or a practising witch. All you need to do is ‘be’.

We believe we live in the present, this time, now but often our minds have wandered to the past or the future and because of our lack of being rooted in the present, we miss the magic.

Sitting on my riverbank is magic…sunlight trickles through the leaves blessing my skin with the warmth of the sun…water rattles and skates over rocks and stones…dipper tips his wing and skims across the water.

Dancing in the rain is magic…clouds bursting their blessings on the earth…the wind blowing up the valley…music, friends and smiles.

Time with my children is magic…catching up on news…sharing success and new ideas…supporting them taking adult steps into the world.

Time with animals is magic… …snuggles with a rescued lamb…warmth and love for a rescued kitty.

Looking into the eyes of a newborn baby is magic.

Dancing together to raise money for those in need is magic.

Sharing my stories is magic.

Decorating my home to welcome in the light at the Winter Solstice is magic.

Walking on the beach and paddling in the sea, whatever the weather, is magic…

I write about magic…real magic…the magic that fills our lives with moments of inspiration, hope, understanding, empathy and love.

People say to me, ‘But magic isn’t real though, is it?’ It depends what you mean by real. Are all those magic moments I listed real? Are they tangible, measurable and scientifically proven? No, but neither is love.

 Thank you, Wendy.

ABOUT ALEIGHA SIRON

My San Francisco Highlander is Aleigha’s second full-length romance novel in her Finding My Highland Series. Now, an Amazon best-selling author of Time-Travel romance, she is working on the third book in her Finding My Highlander Series as well as a collection of romance poems. She’s also working on early character sheets for a Regency Romance series.

After more than twenty-five years writing and delivering management and other training programs, Aleigha Siron turned her writing efforts to fiction and poetry. When not writing, you’ll often find Aleigha walking along the shore with her trusty four-legged companion, Strider. The whoosh of waves across glistening sand and the turbulent swell of the sea at sunset dissolves the noise of the day. If this fails to conjure the muses and stimulate her creative juices, she’ll sip a glass of wine and read.

Aleigha loves all forms of writing, but historical and romance fiction provide a favorite escape, especially those with time-travel themes. A firm believer that everyone secretly yearns for the romance novels’ essential HEA, she knew this was her genre.

Guest Post: Eternal Mercury, Organ Donation, and Cellular Memory

When I first realized that I wanted to write a book, I knew that I wanted it to be different. Shortly after I began brainstorming for that unique idea, a car-crash scene on a mountain highway started playing in my head. Not only was I looking for a unique story idea, but I was also looking for a positive message. I began to wonder if, instead of something scary like a ghost, could something good be left after someone died? The answer became clear to me: organ donation. What could be more beautiful than that? And what could be more romantic than true love that could survive the boundaries of death? To my surprise, the idea turned out to be more realistic than I expected. Through research I discovered the phenomenon of cellular memory. Cellular memory is when people who receive transplants take on traits of people whose organs they receive. It’s rare, but when it does happen, it can come in the form of food cravings, changes in musical taste or hobbies, and sometimes even glimpses at other things about the donor.

Although the level of cellular memory I portrayed in Eternal Mercury is fictional, the need for organs definitely isn’t. It’s hard to think about death, and the common misconceptions about organ donation don’t help. But by understanding the facts and then making your decision known, you just might be able to bring something good out of the bad. That part of Eternal Mercury isn’t based on fiction.

Here are the facts:

Over 100,000 people, including kids, are in need of transplants. Over 20 of them die waiting each day.

One person can save up to seven lives by donating their heart, liver, kidneys, lungs, pancreas, and small intestine. That same person can improve the lives of many others through the donation of tissues such corneas, skin, veins, tendons, ligaments, and bones.

You won’t receive less medical care if you decide to become a donor. Doctors and nurses make every possible effort to save their patients’ lives and will not even consider organ donation unless a person dies.

Income, social status, and race are not factors in deciding who receives organ transplants. You’ll be helping people who need it the most and your family will not be charged for the procedure.

Most major religions support organ donation. I’m not sure that there could be a more loving or selfless gift, but don’t be afraid to check with your spiritual advisor.

Almost anyone can be an organ donor. Age and/or medical history don’t necessarily disqualify you.

The most important thing you can do is let your family know whether or not you want to be an organ donor. No matter what you decide, telling your family will save them from the pain of trying to guess your wishes at a time when that’s the last thing they need. And if the choice is right for you, to let someone else continue on when you’ve reached the end down here, don’t think about what it means for you; instead think of the incredible gratitude you’d feel if someone did it for you or someone you love.

Elaine Pinter lives in Boise, Idaho with her husband and son. When she’s not hanging out with them, she’s jotting down ideas for her next novel in the tattered notebook she carries everywhere.

Her writing journey began in June of 2012 when a reading spree set off an unexpected chain of events. After poring over the pages, her own ideas began to appear and she found herself glued to her laptop after her family went to bed every evening. The late nights continued until her first two YA romance novels, Eternal Mercury and Between the Starlight, were published.

She’s one of those hopeless romantics who believes love always wins and that the best stories are the ones that drag you through the tears and reward you with a smile when all the pieces fit together perfectly in the end.

“Hadley our teenage heroine has many of the insecurities, which inflict most of us at this young age…A lovely story, with some good lessons about friendship, self-esteem and relationships, perfectly pitched for teen/young adult readers.” From author Jane Hunt.

Introducing… Hannah Fielding

Portrait of Hannah Fielding and photos of where she writes.
Portrait of Hannah Fielding and photos of where she writes.

Hannah Fielding is an incurable romantic. The seeds for her writing career were sown in early childhood, spent in Egypt, when she came to an agreement with her governess Zula: for each fairy story Zula told, Hannah would invent and relate one of her own. Years later – following a degree in French literature, several years of travelling in Europe, falling in love with an Englishman, the arrival of two beautiful children and a career in property development – Hannah decided after so many years of yearning to write that the time was now. Today, she lives the dream: writing full time at her homes in Kent, England, and the South of France, where she dreams up romances overlooking breath-taking views of the Mediterranean.

To date, Hannah has published four passionate, evocative novels: Burning Embers, a ‘romance like Hollywood used to make’, set in Kenya; the award-winning Echoes of Love, ‘an epic love story that is beautifully told’, set in Italy; and books 1 and 2 of the Andalusian Nights trilogy, set in sultry Spain, entitled Indiscretion and Masquerade. She is currently working on her fifth book, Legacy, which will publish this spring.

A glimpse of The Echoes of Love

The clock struck midnight just as Venetia went past the grand eighteenth-century mirror hanging over the mantelpiece in the hall. Instinctively she looked into it and her heart skipped a beat. In the firelight she noticed that he was there again, an almost illusory figure, leaning against the wall at the far end of the shadowy room, steady eyes intense, watching her from behind his black mask. An illusory figure indeed, because when Venetia turned around he was gone.

Venetia shivered. Nanny Horren’s voice resounded through her head, reminding her of the strange Celtic superstitions that the Scottish governess used to tell her. One in particular came to mind. ‘Turn off the light and look into the mirror by firelight at midnight on Shrove Tuesday,’ the old woman would whisper to the impressionable and imaginative teenage Venetia, ‘and if you see a face reflected behind your own, it’ll be the face of the love of your life, the man you will marry someday.’

Was this what had just happened to Venetia? Was this stranger the love of her life?

Rubbish, she remonstrated, laughing uneasily into her own eyes, you’re mad! Haven’t you learnt your lesson? Venetia had indulged in such fantasies several years ago and had only managed to get hurt. Now, she knew better. Still, she did not move away. Venetia leant closer to the mirror that reflected her pale, startled face in the flickering light, as tremors of the warm feelings of yester love suddenly flooded her being. For a few moments she seemed to lose all sense of where she was and felt as though she stood inside a globe, watching the wheel of time turning back.

ABOUT ANNABEL

Biography

Annabel Fanning is a British-born, Australian-based writer and full-time cat enthusiast. When she’s not indulging in her love of writing, she likes to paint her nails, shop and wander off into nature — not necessarily in that order.

She began writing songs as a child, the most memorable of which was entitled: “Tropical Night in Switzerland”. Throughout her teens, songwriting was the most rebellious form of expression that she was willing to partake in (no tattoos, drugs, or biker boys) and her love for storytelling developed. There was just one problem: music wasn’t her passion. A month before her 20th birthday whilst sitting under the Californian sun a few deck chairs down from Robert Pattinson, inspiration struck, and Annabel began writing her first novel. The years flew by and now at 26, Annabel has written a handful of novels, which she plans on releasing throughout 2015/16. She’d really like it if you read them.

Freya Nissan grew up knowing that she was different. A free spirit, an outsider, a maverick who sees beyond the confines of her human world. She’s the soulful, idle daydreamer of her sleepy English village, who no one believes will ever amount to much…until the day she does.

Her visionary beliefs spark in her a passion to bring to life the dreams she has at night — dreams of journeying to other realms (entire worlds that exist alongside and even intertwine with the Earth we live on now). And as this story embarks, Freya disappears from her village in search of a discovery that will change her forever.

Christian Delaney died a long time ago. From that day to this he has been waiting for a love that seems determined to elude him…until the day Freya appears.

The inter-dimensional love story that unfolds between them proves to be as unique as it is troublesome, for not all are enchanted by Freya’s capabilities and for daring to be different she and Christian might just pay the ultimate price.

This series debut from bestselling author Annabel Fanning delivers a thrilling and compelling tale of adventure, love, and believing in your dreams.

Extract

“So, where am I?” I ask nervously, walking forward and hoping that this awkward feeling will disappear very soon.

But before I can get an answer, I stumble over my own feet and fall forwards. He catches me in his arms without moving backwards. My hands are splayed on his chest. I remove my left one immediately, but the right one stays where it is. Over his heart.

We stare at each other. There’s a moment’s silence, which feels like hours. Then understanding comes pouring into me.

Oh my God!

I look into his eyes, my own now flooded with a mixture of panic and accusation. He stares sadly back, obviously I’ve reacted the way he feared I would.

I feel nothing under my hand. There is no heartbeat.

“Am I dead?” I whisper.

Images flash through my mind — my parents, Felix, my home…can this place really be where I am safest?

He looks down, then back into my eyes. The back of his hand brushes softly over my bruised cheek, but I pull it away. This is no time for him to be seducing me.

“Am I dead?” I ask again, a little more firmly.

He gently takes my hand off of his chest and places it over my own heart. I feel its quickened pace and sigh in relief.

“No, Freya, you’re not dead,” he says, seriously. “But I am.”

‎Story Time

This is The Portal Opener’s brush with someone famous (Robert Pattinson).

In 2008 I lived in LA, writing and recording music. I was staying in a huge apartment complex and when I first arrived I took the bus everywhere.
I was just outside the complex coming back from the bus stop when an old beat-up black BMW coupe (I remember it because it was SO cool) drove past and I did a double take at the driver. Being a HUGE Harry Potter fan I immediately recognised Cedric Diggory was driving. I thought that was cool, then forgot all about it.

In July(ish) I went to the cinema and one of the trailers before the film was this darkly-lit indie-looking thing which didn’t make a very good first impression on me. Twas the trailer for Twilight.

By mid-September I had began writing The Portal Opener. I was 19 and didn’t have a fake ID, so had to spend every night in the small apartment I shared. And because I was cooped up all night, I spent everyday sitting on a lounger by the pool, in the beautiful Californian late-summer sun, my computer on my lap, writing, writing, writing.

Everyday Mr. Edward Cullen himself showed up and sat by the pool too. This went on for about six weeks. Me writing, him reading scripts/books or doing I don’t know what. Sometimes we were on opposite sides, sometimes right next to each other.

Over those weeks, I saw his anonymity disappear. There used to be no one at the pool during the day, but quietly more and more girls appeared the closer Twilight came to being released.

At the end of October, on the same day, I flew home to Perth and he started the press junket for Twilight. I finished writing The Portal Opener two weeks later. A month later still I was sat in the cinema watching Twilight, thinking…if only I’d said hello!

SHE SERIES

Descriptions

PART 1

“LOVE and SEX at once, is a powerful combination.”

Escape into Annabel Fanning’s feel-good bestselling erotic debut. She Part 1 is a contemporary and humorous look into the lives of two people who are on the precipice of true love. The novel uniquely crosses several genres, mixing first-grade erotica seamlessly with women’s lit and breathtaking romance.

The story unfolds over sixteen thrilling and erotically-charged days, during which the reader is thrust into the heart of Paris, the novel’s backdrop, and into the daily lives of the construction world’s elite.

Logan Leary is a reformed bad-boy who moved to the city of love fifteen years ago to start his life over. Now he owns one of Paris’s most successful companies and leads as seemingly charmed life. There’s just one thing missing: Gemima Samuels.

Gemima Samuels moved to Paris with her down-on-his-luck boyfriend eight years ago. She coasted through life (in that annoying way we sometimes do) until her boyfriend cheated on her and life dealt her a wake up call. Choosing to start afresh, Gemima ends her relationship and quits her job before being hired by the most prestigious interior design firm in the city.

A supposedly inconsequential lunch date turns out to be the start of something phenomenal that will change both of their lives forever.

Set in picturesque Paris, She Part 1 is an erotic tale about falling madly in love. Combining sex, passion, and romance, these two high-flying professionals will leave you saying, “Oh, la la!”

PART 2

“LOVE and SEX at once, is a powerful combination. LOVE and SEX in Paris, is better.”

In this sequel Annabel continues to effortlessly marry several genres. From laugh-out-loud comedy to steaming erotica to heart pounding romance, She Part 2 has it all.

Picking up where Part 1 left off, Gemima and Logan escape Paris for the weekend to indulge in all manner of pleasurable things on the French Riviera. Relaxation, sightseeing and sex — it’s a perfect combination!

Once back in Paris, life hands out a few surprises, from troublesome ex-boyfriends, to changes at work, to a heartwarming best friends confession. But the lead up to Logan’s birthday brings one event that Gemima must conquer (and try her best not to say anything inappropriate which, you know, is hard for her!) She must meet Logan’s parents, and his bastard of a brother…

Taking place over thirteen electric days, She Part 2 continues to explore love, sex and a relationship unlike any other you’ve ever read. This smart-talking duo will leave you saying, “Oh mon dieu!”

Part 1 is 115,000 words and Part 2 is 150,000 of “oh, la la” goodness. For readers 18+ over only. Contains explicit sexual content, a hero that will make your heart flutter, and a heroine who will make you laugh out loud. To experience the full scope of their relationship, this series is designed to be read in its entirety.

Music

I incorporated a lot of music in these series (each chapter is named after a song, as is the entire series). The chapter playlists can be found here: http://www.annabelfanning.com/music-playlist.html

And here’s a guest post that went live last week about it:

I LOVE music! It’s a huge part of my life. I spent all of my teen years writing songs and coming up with melodies and putting them to tracks in various recording studios around the city where I live. Music features heavily in the two book series that I wrote before She Part 1 & 2, however with these books I went a little further and decided to name each chapter in the books after a song that I feel best resonates with the contents of the corresponding chapter. Here’s what I came up with…
