Scott Family Short Stories- review and blog tour

My review:

Books are my Life participates in a blog tour with this triple review. YEY! It is the first time and I must say the reason for that is all three novelettes are part of the series.

Let’s Dance (#1) is the first novelette by Amanda Paull that I ever read and I’ve thoroughly enjoy reading it. The story begins with Shona and Laura, two best friends going to dance lessons. It’s Shona’s idea. Laura doesn’t want to go but her best friend’s desire and enthusiasm are as huge as a mountain and she doesn’t have a choice.

Shona has a “vision board”:

“‘I’ve made a vision board.’ Shona drew a large square in the air with her hands. ‘It has a picture of my perfect man pinned to it – fantastic body. And that posh hotel we like in Ibiza, the one with the huge pool and swim-up bar.’ ‘Won’t the image of a particular man prevent the Universe from sending the one it has picked out for you?’ ‘I cut off his head.’

LOL. I couldn’t stop laugh imagining the whole scene. There are lots of laughing out loud moments like that. I like when the book makes me laugh and delighted me.

I like the way Laura met Ben and her thoughts about him “the man with the flexible shoes”, also their dancing and their teacher Portia.

The narration is very entertaining and charming and I recommend this short book to everyone who wants a quick and enjoyable short story.

Spoiler alert: If you don’t read the first novelette please don’t read the review below.

A Christmas Day Kerfuffle (#2)

The story continues where it ends in the first installment Laura has a new boyfriend and that is Ben. They are together in love. It’s Christmas time and Ben should meet Laura’s family for the second time. Laura wants their first Christmas as a couple to be perfect but is it possible with her crazy family?

Despite Laura’s first impression about Ben and all those dance classes, she loves him.

“She loved his velvety dark brown hair, with just enough wave to give it a sexy, tousled look. Her whole body tingled as she imagined running her own hands through it.”

Is love enough to endure the mess? The end gave me the answer to this question and I adore it.

Fenella’s Fabulous Fountain Fondue (#3)

Laura and Ben’s relationship survived after two meetings with Laura’s family but now it is the turn to Ben’s family. They want to surprise Ben’s mother Fenella for her eighty-fifth birthday. The two families are meeting for the first time. Laura is so nervous and how she couldn’t be, knowing her family. They are absolute havoc.

I couldn’t stop laughing at the moment when Maureen trying to buy a new dress and wants to purchase a bigger size.

“If we stuck a white hat on her she’d look like a Smurf,’ cackled Laura.”

I think that the reader should read all three novelettes and get known better all members from the Scott Family. They are hilarious people who sometimes do ridiculous things messing around. Although they are chaotic they are also sympathetic.

I recommend this series because are fast page turners and entertaining.

Let’s Dance (Scott Family Short Stories, Book 1)

She’s helping out a friend. His dad’s hip’s gone. Could a farcical mix-up lead to love?

Ballroom dancing is the last thing Laura wants to try. But her best friend is desperate to meet a hip-swinging Adonis, so before she knows it, Laura is cha cha cha-ing in the back of the Dog and Duck with nerdy Ben. At least no one else need ever find out. No such luck. Her mother is armed with a social media page and dangerous. The shenanigans begin. What a pity Ben’s now looking rather dapper. Will he scarper? Or is Ben made of sterner stuff?
If you like innocent, laugh-out-loud family mayhem, you’ll love Let’s Dance, the first Scott Family.

What’s Love Got to Do with It by Anna Premoli – review

My review:

What’s Love Got to Do with It is a romantic comedy about Kayla thirty and something years old a city girl from New York. She is a columnist spending time writing about a nightlife in New York contributing in it and telling the story from a firsthand.

Her boss sends her on a cover assignment in Arkansas. Kayla is devastated but she must obey and spend a few months in the small town where everyone knows each other and where aren’t cocktails. What she would do?

Day by day, the citizens of the town and their mayor will make miracle and chaos in her life.

Anna Premoli’s writing style is almost the same as Sophie Kinsella funny, exciting and passionate with some explicit sex scenes.

Some funny moment on the first page, I laugh out loud and I feel in the same way almost every morning with my urge for the caffeine shot:

“Unfortunately, the cup is so hot that I almost drop it as soon as my fingers make contact. Despite its inviting aroma, I decide to put it on the desk and avoid burning my stomach with it for the moment – I do desperately need a caffeine shot, but I do not need third-degree burns.”

Kayla is a city girl, fashionable and wild. She needs one night stands kind of men and it last literally one night. Kayla likes New York and everything that got with life there. Poor Kayla I totally related with her I hated visiting rural areas in the past, but not now.

“My expression immediately becomes less cheerful. The mere word ‘Arkansas” gives me a weird uncomfortable feeling in the pit of my stomach …and no amount of ginger tea is going to make it go away.”

The first expression when she meets Greyson, the mayor:

“I need to force myself to stop staring at him the way an alcoholic would stare at a bottle of good whiskey and try and focus back on my actual problem.”

“Glancing over at him and his backside, if I’m being totally honest. I’m starting to think that it ought to be designated a national monument. If we can’t do that, we can at least declare it to be one of Herber Springs’ protected species. You don’t see asses like that every day… They ought to patent the damn thing.”

The hilarious scene I experienced reading this book is:

“It gets better and better,” he murmurs and ruffles his hair with his hand. It’s so unfair that men almost always look sexier after they do that. It never happens to me- if I ruffle my hair, I end up looking like a demented porcupine, at best.”

I must admit didn’t know what is a porcupine and I googled and then I laughed till tears didn’t come and my stomach ache.

There were many deep and some of them are just interesting thoughts which I want to share with you:

“Nobody is perfect, and there’s nothing you can do about it. It’s life.”

“I’m not used to people being kind to me anymore, which is why I’m always suspicious when someone offers to help me. But this time I don’t want to be suspicious.”

“Do you know what they say? The things worth fighting for never come easy.”

“This man is so good that I almost want to corrupt him.”

“Each of us has to live with our insecurities, I’m just better than average at hiding mine…”

I have more quotes but it’s not my intention to be boring in the opposite that is the evidence how much I enjoy in this book.

I recommend it to everyone who likes Sophie Kinsella style of writing.

Dating Down by Diane Louise – review

Title: Dating Down

Author: Diane Louise

Genre: Romantic Comedy, Fiction

Pages: 222

Published: 30th September

My review:

Life sucks sometimes. Alexis’ life is a mess she was wealthy and happy, but she isn’t anymore.  Everything is twisted, she is poor and single but she is intent on to be rich again. Although that decision is easy to make but is tough to do, Alexis will do anything to get to what she wants.

Alexis never considers that taxi drivers are humans neither that they could be attractive young men then she meets Bob. But he is a poor taxi driver, what he could do for her?

I feel joy and happiness reading this book. It’s easy and entertaining page-turner filled with humor and witty remarks.

LOL, this so funny:

“Oh, Alexis you are the epitome of female power; look at you.” She holds me at arm’s length, her strong fingers digging deep into my shoulder like a witch testing my nutritional value.”

Alexis is very funny, mannerly and snobby woman, despite her downsides I like it so much and enjoy reading her ventures, either she is doing it or jump in it.

Candy Alexis’ sister, she is far away from the meaning of her name.  She is Alexis’ opposite sassy, anti-elitist and messy woman.

“Having the thing from the spot where it has stood for years, I dive towards Candy but am too late. Like something from a Stephen King book, she hurls up a gallon of liquid that splatters all over my bare feet.”

Yes, what is wrong? I totally agree with the quote:

“What is wrong with a bath and a good book? That’s what any normal thirty-three years old woman would do.”

From the scenes that I like and could describe as sizzling and sensuous, I would emphasize this one:

“His hair is disheveled again from the cute habit he has of running his hands through it. His bow tie, long since undone, is hanging loosely around his neck and I still have drool on the back of my hand from wiping it away when he flicked open a couple of buttons on his dress shirt.”

I recommend this book to everyone, who likes short, easy turning page romantic comedy.

Dating Down

Suddenly single and unexpectedly poor, it’s definitely safe to say that Alexis Harland is not living the life of her dreams.

Although she’s determined that nothing, not one little thing, will stop her return from poverty. Well, almost nothing. Her pride might get in the way a little. And possibly her family. And maybe the fact that she hasn’t got a clue where to start.

Many years ago, Alexis was swept away from life on a caravan park and introduced to a world of riches and glamour. All thanks to a wealthy man who married her, reinvented her… and then dumped her for a younger model at the first sign of cellulite.

Now Alexis is stranded, struggling to keep her head above water and her history a secret from her highbrow friends.

As if that isn’t enough for a woman to deal with, one night she comes home to find a sexy man has landed, quite literally, on her doorstep. A man hell-bent on testing everything Alexis thinks she knows about true happiness.

Caught between the life she knows and her blossoming love, can Alexis afford to let go of her unwavering pride, kiss her social status goodbye and accept that stepping back to square one is sometimes a huge leap forward?

Audrey Davis, book post, fiction, review, romance, romantic comedy, women's fiction

The Haunting Hattie Hastings I, II, III by Audrey Davis- review

The Haunting of Hattie Hastings Part 3One late night Hattie and Gary come home and tragedy hits them. Gary is dead Hattie is heartbroken and devastated maybe he was driving her crazy still she loves him very much. Cat Hattie’s best friend is near Hattie in the difficult time supporting and consoling her. Only the showing of the spirit of Gary could find the way to back Hattie in the right path however she has another problem to convince the others that Gary is back.

My first impression of the first pages of this book was Come on! It’s supposed to be a romantic comedy how death gets into it but after a few pages and many tears, I understood. Gary past away and I was sad and felt like Hattie because I know how it is to lose someone close.  The pages turned away I laugh so many times. The story went perfectly smooth I liked Hattie and Cat’s friendship also when Gary was showing up the situations were humorous.

When the first part ended I couldn’t hardly wait to read the second part and then the third one. How pages went on the whole situation become interesting and fun with all the characters Hattie, Cat, Gary’s spirit and Hattie’s mother. Every one of them had something to deal with.

This book is for this summer relaxing days fast, fun with emotional edging, when you read it, make sure that you have enough tissues for crying.

Synopsis part three:

Nothing lasts forever … Gary’s time on earth seems to be coming to an end. His visits are less frequent and his visibility is fading fast. But he still has a mission to accomplish, which involves Hattie and her ability to pass on a heart-rending message.

Best friend Cat’s ex-husband is determined to prove that he deserves another chance, but do leopards really change their spots?

Times are tough for Hattie’s mother Rachel, but where there’s life, there’s hope …

Meanwhile, is there someone already in Hattie’s life who can help her move on when it’s finally time to say goodbye?

Get your tissues at the ready – both for laughter and tears – with the final instalment of a trilogy that has been hailed ‘brilliant’, ‘hilarious’, and ‘a great feel-good read’.

About Audrey Davis

audrey

Audrey Davis survived secondary school on the West coast of Scotland. Rubbish at science but not too bad at English, she originally wanted to be an actress but was persuaded that journalism was a safer option. Probably wise. She studied at Napier College in Edinburgh, the only place in Scotland at that time to offer a journalism course.

Her first foray into the hard-nosed newspaper world was as a junior reporter in Dumfriesshire. Duties included interviewing farmers about the prize-winning heifers to reporting on family tragedies. She persuaded her editor to let her launch an entertainment column which meant meeting the odd celebrity – or just the downright odd. From there, she moved to the loftier rank of senior reporter back in her home patch. Slightly more money, fewer farm animals but a higher crime rate. As Taggart would say: ‘There’s been a murrrrder!’

After a stint in London on a video magazine – yes, she is that old – Audrey moved to Singapore with her fiancé. She tried valiantly to embrace the stinking heat, humidity and lack of jobs, although she did work briefly on a magazine which was banned by the government for ‘artistic’ use of naked men’s bottoms.

Next on her adventures was a land Down Under where her main focus was raising Cost Centre One (aka firstborn) and coming to terms with the imminent arrival of Number Two. Still, she loved the Aussie way of life – BBQs, beaches and bring your own booze to restaurants – so it came as a blow when OH announced a move back to the UK. Not a job between them, the climate a possible deal breaker and an Exorcist-style vomiting infant on the flight home didn’t bode well …Always a survivor, Audrey sought out similar-minded friends (i.e. slightly bonkers), got the children into a good school and thought about taking up writing again. Sadly, thinking about it was as far as she got, unless you count shopping lists. Then, hubby drops another bombshell. Switzerland. As in – it’s packing time again. Off to the land of cheese, chocolate, scarily efficient trains and a couple of teeny, tiny issues. Like driving on the ‘wrong’ side of the road and speaking a foreign language (French). The former was conquered fairly quickly (we’ll skip over the wall demolition in week two), the latter remains an ongoing battle of the hopeful against the hopeless. At least she provides amusement for the local workforce.
It wasn’t until 2016 that Audrey rediscovered her writing mojo with an online Writing Fiction course. From there, her first novel – A Clean Sweep – was born, although it took a bit longer than nine months from conception. A short, darker prequel – A Clean Break – followed, and in November 2017 she published the first in a novella trilogy, The Haunting of Hattie Hastings Part One. Part Two is published on 21 March 2018, with the conclusion following in July. After which she might have a wee lie down …

Madam Love, Actually by Rich Amooi- review + giveaway, blog tour

Title: Madam Love, Actually

Author: Rich Amooi

Genre: Romantic Comedy, Fiction

Pages: 248 (I’ve read Kindle copy)

Amazon

My review:

Madam Love aka Emma has a problem with her work she doesn’t have customers enough to pay her bills and her “business” is at risk.  She is a fortune teller precisely a matchmaker.  Emma tells her clients what to do to find their soulmate. One radio emission turns her attention and angers her that she makes a call. Lance Parker a bestselling author of Your Soulmate Doesn’t Exist is live on the radio and explains why he doesn’t believe in soulmates.  When Madam Love opposes him live in the air. The radio hostess arranges the challenge Madam Love has two weeks to find Lance’s soul mate.

But, he doesn’t believe that soul mate exists how it could work? Emma thinks that he is an arrogant and impossible man how she could find him someone who will fall in love with him?

OMG! This is the funniest and entertaining romantic comedy that I ever read. I admit this is the first book from Rich Amooi that I’ve read and I promise it won’t be the last. This book caught me till the first page:

“I want a man who looks like Gerard Butler, has deep pockets like Bill Gates, cooks like the Barefoot Contessa, and has the fashion sensibilities of a gay man.”

It’s about two diametric different persons fall in love, lies and finding a soul mate to someone that doesn’t believe in it.  I felt so strongly for this story, read it in one breathe and laugh out loud.

“Yes, but I want to make sure you know how important it is for my man to have very large feet. You know what they say about men with big feet, right?”

Emma knew exactly what they said, but she wasn’t going there. “It’s hard for them to find shoes in their size?”

Brenda’s high-pitched laugh was like the clucking cry of a goose in the middle of an egg-laying marathon, but the psychotic euphoria was short-lived when she choked on her own saliva.

When Lance accepts a challenge it starts being roller coasting funny.

“Well, darling… I’m really not sure which garbage I belong in, you know, me being a fortune teller and all. I just want to make sure I place myself in the proper receptacle since tomorrow is pickup day in my neighborhood.”

Peter covered his face with the palms of his hands.

“Do I go in the regular garbage or in the recycle bin?” Madam Love said.”Compost, maybe? Unless you think I’m radioactive.”

Emma is a sweet and smart woman, I like it how she talks and deals with the stressful situation.

Also, I like Lance personality which it seems like an arrogant man without a sense of love and serendipity in the first place, but then it shows that he is a believer.

I recommend this book to everyone who wants fast page tuners, laugh-out-loud reads and happy ends.

Synopsis:

Lance Parker is an arrogant know-it-all. As author of the bestselling book Your Soulmate Doesn’t Exist, he says love is for losers. Madam Love is a fortune teller and matchmaker who has brought hundreds of couples together.

When the two clash during a radio interview, she admits even someone as irritating and impossible as Lance has a soulmate. He says she’s delirious and a fraud. Then the gauntlet is laid down: Madam Love has two weeks to prove Lance wrong and find him a soulmate.

When Lance meets wonderful Emma by chance, he doesn’t know what to think anymore. But Emma has a secret. She’s Madam Love, actually. And it’s going to take a whole lot more than a crystal ball to get her out of this mess.

5 STAR REVIEW:

The plot kept me captivated as a budding romance develops between Chasen and Skye, who seem to have the same vision and goals in life. I found the dialog to be open, honest and heartwarming and a few lines to melt the heart. “It looks like your journey brought you love.” “If you dream together, then it’s a reality.

I enjoyed this fast pace wedding novella with interesting characters. The plot kept the pages turning, and the dialog was entertaining. Darrin’s happy to be moving home, and what is even more of a pleasant surprise is seeing her again. Jess isn’t the geeky girl he remembered when he left. But after all the mean things he said in the past, will she give him another chance?

Will love be in the air?

Greek Millionaire, Unruly Wife- review+ blog tour + giveaway

Greek Millionaire Unruly Wife Full Tour Banner.jpg

My review:

When Julia finds her husband with another woman that is the end no matter how rich or how handsome he is. But Michalis Leonidis a Greek tycoon doesn’t share the same meaning with her. He wants revenge and he is furious. It is not about a billion dollar deal broken or his marriage but he can’t pass through the secret Julia hides from him. So, Michalis gets big vengeance on her.

The story is typical romance there is everything that one good romance book could have two persons in love but they hate each other, one big secret which leads the tale ahead, hot- cold situation and many things which I love.

I like Julia because she knows what she wants. She is an independent woman who doesn’t have only beauty but also has other qualification to be great female.

“Not long ago, she’d owned countless such designer gowns, shoes, jewellery, and had the man- the life- to go with it. A sound gurgled in her throat, and the girl cast her odd look. Julia swallowed and turned away, blinking back the tears pressing against her lids.”

One of the we-are-enemies scenes:

…when he shifted his eyes to her, his tender look became eclipsed…

“Don’t look at me like that,” she’d said between her teeth.

“Like what?”

“Like I’ve committed some great sin.”

He scratched his cheek with the pad odd his thumb. “Conscience nipping at you?”

“No,” she hissed. “ It’s not my conscience that’s guilty, it’s-“

I recommend this novel to everyone who wants easy romantic story especially to read on the beach.

Synopsis:

A tempestuous fling…a marriage…a betrayal?

Author Bio

Wendy Steele is author, wise woman, goddess. She is writer, dance teacher, mother and healer.

Her passion is magic.

‘The Lilith Trilogy’ leads the reader along the paths of the witches Qabalah, following Angel Parson’s story of betrayal, retribution and redemption. Her magical story contains high magic as well as pagan ritual.

‘The Standing Stone Book Series’ focuses on the lives of three women linked together across time and space by the standing stone. The countryside is the focus of their magic, embracing the gods and goddesses, tree spirits, elves and fairies.

Her latest series, The Wendy Woo Witch Lit Series, begins with The Naked Witch. Lizzie Martin, receptionist, single mother and witch, is asked by her new boss to conform and embrace the corporate dress code. The reality of paisley to pin stripe, an unexpected stay in hospital, monitoring of her fourteen year old daughter’s latest crush, the search for the truth about her father’s death and two new men in her life, give Lizzie plenty of plates to spin. In the Orphan Witch, Lizzie is grieving while trying to find her real mother and the truth about her father and in the third book, The Flowerpot Witch, due to be published on 21st June, she embarks on a new career, thwarted at every step by those around her.

You can hear Wendy telling her short stories in Pan’s Grotto on her Welsh riverbank, on her YouTube channel, The Phoenix and the Dragon.

Wendy’s non-fiction title ‘Wendy Woo’s Year – A Pocketful of Smiles’ offers the reader 101 ideas to bring a smile to every day.

Wendy lives in Wales with her partner, Mike, and cats. If she’s not writing or teaching dance, you’ll find her renovating her house, clearing her land or sitting on her riverbank, breathing in the beauty of nature.

We have Wendy’s guest post here:

The Flower Pot Witch - Wendy.jpg

Why Magic?

I wanted to write a ‘new story’ for women. My fiction features strong yet vulnerable women. My stories show girls and women that they can be whoever they want to be. They can follow their hearts, trust their instincts, believe in themselves, even enjoy not conforming and most importantly, experience magic in their lives.

Witch Lit is contemporary, magical realism, where the magical and the mundane co-exist. The stories are gritty and believable while magic is sprinkled through the stories, offering the reader a new perspective on reality.

We all experience magic in our lives. There is no need to be pagan or a practising witch. All you need to do is ‘be’.

We believe we live in the present, this time, now but often our minds have wandered to the past or the future and because of our lack of being rooted in the present, we miss the magic.

Sitting on my riverbank is magic…sunlight trickles through the leaves blessing my skin with the warmth of the sun…water rattles and skates over rocks and stones…dipper tips his wing and skims across the water.

Dancing in the rain is magic…clouds bursting their blessings on the earth…the wind blowing up the valley…music, friends and smiles.

Time with my children is magic…catching up on news…sharing success and new ideas…supporting them taking adult steps into the world.

Time with animals is magic… …snuggles with a rescued lamb…warmth and love for a rescued kitty.

Looking into the eyes of a newborn baby is magic.

Dancing together to raise money for those in need is magic.

Sharing my stories is magic.

Decorating my home to welcome in the light at the Winter Solstice is magic.

Walking on the beach and paddling in the sea, whatever the weather, is magic…

I write about magic…real magic…the magic that fills our lives with moments of inspiration, hope, understanding, empathy and love.

People say to me, ‘But magic isn’t real though, is it?’ It depends what you mean by real. Are all those magic moments I listed real? Are they tangible, measurable and scientifically proven? No, but neither is love.

 Thank you, Wendy.

The blurb

Best friends Scarlett and Shannon spend their days tangled up in dog leads and covered in fur, running their dog business together. Scarlett’s intensive training course, Ruff Love, fixes owners as much as their pets, while Shannon spends her days walking spoiled pooches.

They share more than their business though: they also share Scarlett’s husband, Rufus, who’s been Shannon’s best friend since childhood. It’s a cosy setup. Unless one of them has a secret…

When Scarlett and Rufus’s baby plans are decimated by a surprise turn of events, their marriage hits the rocks and they both turn to Shannon. All three relationships are pushed to breaking point, but when loyalties become divided, how do you decide who’s most important?

Author Bio

Michele writes books with heart and humour, full of best friends, girl power and, of course, love and romance. Call them beach books or summer reads, chick lit or romcom… readers and reviewers call them “feel good”, “relatable” and “thought-provoking”.

She is both a Sunday Times and a USA Today bestselling author, raised in the US and living in London. She is very fond of naps, ice cream and Richard Curtis films but objects to spiders and the word “portion”.

Review:

Although her parents thought that Payton is ridiculous and not approve her blogging career, Payton still thinks that she will succeed. Payton is an independent girl who endeavors and wants perfections, whether that be her looking or achievements in her career, even her green tea latte is perfectly chosen to be the perfect drink for her.

One day Payton goes in her usual coffee shop and orders her green tea latte, but she gets coffee which is not her but Brooks’ a perfect Englishman with beautiful brown eyes.

I like this book like all Aven Ellis’s books that I’ve read, because of it with her recognizable calm tone, enthusiastic story line, and sparkle and breathing new character.Yes, breathing because Ellis brings life in her characters they are like breathing, alive persons. I like the light way and like delightful Payton.

Payton is a girl like every girl in the world ambitious, trendsetter, a girl with style. I like how she manage to accomplish all her aspirations.

Brooks is every woman’s dream boyfriend. He knows what he wants and what doesn’t want, he knows how to conquest the girl’s heart.

I recommend this book to everyone who wants to read light, heart melting funny books, to everyone who believes that true love can defeat all obstacles.

This book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

My rating 5/5 (amazing book).
